learning to live with a historic, 140 year old building

7 Aug

I loved the idea of buying an old house in a neighborhood where working class people once lived and was considered fashionable then.  I am talking about Williamson street in Madison, Wisconsin.  Owners over the years made do with minimum renovation to ensure the building  did not collapse.  They did not know my spouse who can not stand half done jobs and if its a historic building, then we should make right of others wrong.  So here are some images of the work being done.

The building is very charming. i am not sharing the picture of the facade as yet until its all ready. But I can share that the building was constructed in about 1895 and was a shoe sales and manufacturing business and the owner lived next door, which now is occupied by 10 students. The house behind the truck was the owners house then.  IMG_2287 IMG_2323 IMG_2352 IMG_2354 IMG_2357 IMG_2407
