Almaty

6 Nov

When i first learned about my assignment to Khazakstan, i was both excited and sad. Leaving Madison was going to be hard. I had made friends during the past 3 years. Had found a neighborhood that completely met my needs. And on top of that leaving my family for a year. Howver across the other end was an invite to return to Central Asia after 20 years. I was excited to see the changes that have taken place. When i first arrived in 1996, the 5 Central Asian countries had recently become independent, looking forward to joining the free world.  After two weeks I am a bit nostalgic about some of the old Almaty and trying to understand the new. Some images here of the old and the new.
